Please read this before your first Lock in. It explains how Apple’s Guided Access works with lizlo, and what to do in an emergency.

1. Guided Access is Apple’s feature
Lock in uses Apple’s Guided Access. It keeps your iPhone on lizlo until you end it yourself.
You start it and you end it, with Apple’s buttons and screens. lizlo cannot start, end or unlock Guided Access for you. lizlo can see whether Guided Access is on. It cannot check your Guided Access settings.
2. Emergencies
Emergency Services and Crash Detection are unavailable while Guided Access is active.
Do not start a lock when you may need immediate access to your phone or are responsible for someone who may need urgent help.
lizlo shows this warning again on the waiting screen before every lock.
To call for help, end Guided Access first, using the steps in section 4.
If a call comes in during a lock, lizlo shows the steps to end Guided Access so you can answer.
3. How to start a lock
1. In lizlo, hold the circle, then hold Hold to make the promise.
2. Triple-click the Side Button (or Home button, if present).
3. If the Accessibility Shortcuts menu appears first, tap Guided Access. Tap Start if Apple shows it.
The clock starts when Guided Access is on. If Guided Access does not start within 2 minutes, the session is cancelled.
Set up Guided Access once in iPhone Settings › Accessibility › Guided Access. lizlo walks you through it and lets you practise before your first lock.
4. How to end Guided Access
The first step depends on your iPhone’s iOS version. lizlo shows the right one for your iPhone.
On iOS 18, double-click the Side Button (or Home button, if present).
On iOS 26 or later, triple-click the Side Button (or Home button, if present).
Then authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID or your Guided Access passcode. Choose Guided Access if asked, then tap End.
Learn these steps before your first lock. Remember your Guided Access passcode.
5. When the timer reaches zero
Guided Access is still on. Timer zero does not turn it off.
When time is up, your session is complete. lizlo shows the steps to end Guided Access. Follow them to use your iPhone normally again.
6. Where lizlo shows the exit steps
The locked screen does not show the exit steps all the time. You can find them on the waiting screen before a lock starts, through Review the steps; after you confirm End early from the locked screen; when time is up; on the incoming-call card, through How to pick up; during setup and practice; and in Settings › Guided Access, including a step-by-step guide.
7. If something goes wrong
If Guided Access ends unexpectedly, lizlo crashes or your iPhone restarts, a Lock in session is marked as interrupted. A scheduled Focus block that stops before its scheduled end is recorded as a missed run; this does not mean the app crashed.
Sometimes Guided Access may not start. lizlo cannot fix Apple’s feature. If it does not start, nothing is locked and you can try again.
If you cannot end Guided Access, follow the steps in section 4 again. In an emergency, end Guided Access first.
8. Focus mode
Focus mode does not use Guided Access. It uses Apple’s Screen Time to block the apps you choose, or apps outside an allow-only group. Calls and texts still work. Before a Focus session, consider which other apps you may need and check your selections. This does not change the Guided Access emergency warning for Lock in.
9. Use lizlo safely
lizlo is a focus tool. It is not medical, psychological or emergency help.
Do not use lizlo while driving or doing anything that needs your full attention for safety.
